If you know me you’ll know I’m crazy about books. They are some of my most favourite things.
I am that weird person who loves the smell of a book store filled with new books. It’s like it instantly transports me back to being a kid and shopping with my Dad.
Books were most definitely our thing. If he wasn’t watching me browse the book section of literally any store we went in that had books he was taking me on our weekly trip to the Library for my next instalment reading.
I always browsed the shelves for my perfect selection and borrowed the max (10) I was allowed on my card and sometimes begged for him to add a few to his.
I remember I would proudly announce as I finished reading each book making it a challenge to see how many I could read in the shortest amount of time… those were the days and that is 100% why books are my happy place.
When our girls were little I immediately started adding children’s books to our collection and as they’ve grown we’ve continued the growing piles.
I’m not gonna lie when we would bring home our latest purchases and they’d ask if I could contact the covers to protect them when they take them to school my inner child danced while she embraced her own books with a huge smile on her face.
Their excitement for books has decreased as they have gotten older but hopefully one day they’ll look back and remember these moments and reach for a book to smell the pages and reminisce our times with books.
I was so excited when I realised where Craig was driving to on this cold rainy day because nothing is better than snuggling up with a book and a cup of tea when it’s raining.
In our haste of being spontaneous for a family adventure, we neglected to think just how busy this gorgeous place gets and arrived to find out that the cafe was completely booked for the entire day 🙁
As they say, the silver lining was that after we spent much time wandering the aisles and looking through the books trying to narrow down purchases we had time to go for another adventure and explore some of the local space in the rain.
We drove down fire trails and picked random roads at forks until we finally stopped to capture some moments of playing in the rain before we headed into town to find a hidden cafe for something to warm our bellies for the trip home.
